(MPRN-Lansing) - Economists are predicting a revenue shortfall of about $330 million in the current state budget. They say the main reason is business tax credits that were claimed late last year.

State Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof says that means budget cuts will be necessary.

“We have opportunities, I think, to look at internally and say, where can we streamline and improve government in terms of cost?”

Governor Rick Snyder will present his budget plans for this fiscal year and the next one on February 11th. Legislative leaders say they’d like to protect K-through-12 schools and higher education from cuts, but everything else is on the table.
