Legislative Democrats Propose Mandated Sick Leave

WMUK

Democrats in the state Legislature have unveiled bills that would require businesses to offer paid sick leave.

Workers would accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours they work.

“No one wants to get sick and miss work. But it happens. And we shouldn’t penalize working women, men, and their families because of an illness they can’t prevent,”

said state Rep. Stephanie Chang, D-Detroit. The plan is not likely to go far in the Republican-dominated Legislature. House Republicans announced earlier on Thursday that they hope to get rid of local sick day ordinances. They say those laws hinder job creation.
