Libertarian Candidate Runs for Allegan County State House Seat

WMUK

Arnie Davidsons says he's running to give people a choice in the November election.

The Libertarian is running in the 80th state House district, which includes most of Allegan County. The current representative, Republican Bob Genetski, cannot run again because of term limits.

Davidisons says he would represent the "regular working man," not special interests or corporations. Davidsons a former General Motors employee says at times he disagreed with the union representing him. But he says Michigan's "right to work" law requires unions to represent non-paying members. Davidsons he would likely vote to repeal the "right to work" legislation.

On fixing and maintaining roads, Davidsons says more money is needed for infrastructure. But he says increasing gas taxes and fees would hit families "working paycheck to paycheck" the hardest. Davidsons says the state should find the money in its existing budget to fix roads.

Asked about the state's current tax system, Davidsons says he would keep the sales tax about where it's at, and maintain the state's flat income tax rate. Davidsons says he would vote to repeal the change which taxes some pension income.
