Libertarian State House Candidate Says He Won't "Go Along To Get Along"

WMUK

Libertarian Arnis Davidsons says he does not want “business as usual” if elected to the state House.

Davidsons who ran in the same state House district two years ago, and again in a special election earlier this year. Davidsons says he wants to get elected to represent Allegan County.

Asked what should happen in cities with major financial problems, Davidsons says he’s not sure, but adds that the emergency manager system is unfair to the people who live there.

Davidsons says criminal sentencing reform is an issue that needs more attention. He says too many people are given long sentences for minor crimes. Davidsons says having a criminal record then makes it tough for someone to get a job.

Regarding taxes, Davidsons says the combination of taxes adds up to taking too much of people’s income. But he says a combination of various taxes is probably the fairest system. However, Davidsons says the tax on pension income approved in 2011 was unfair.

Davidsons says Michigan has the most expensive auto insurance in the country. But he says he’s not sure how to transition from the current system that provides life-time care for people seriously injured in auto accidents.

Regarding energy, Davidsons says he favor more competition, and is all in favor of alternative sources of energy. But he says there should not be mandates because it does not account for cost-effectiveness.

Davidsons views the low favorability ratings of the major party candidates for President as an opportunity to grow the Libertarian Party. But he says “unfortunately we’ve got a few real radicals that get most of the press coverage, which makes us all look crazy.”
