Los Angeles Guitar Quartet To Play Custom-Built Concerto With KSO

lagq.com

The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra will team up with not one, but four guitarists to perform a new work by renowned Brazilian composer and guitarist Sergio Assad

William Kanengiser, a founding member of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, talks about the group's friendship with brothers Sergio and Odair Assad, which dates back 30 years to the time the LAGQ was just starting out.

Mr. Kanengiser gives additional credit for the quartet's success to his teacher, Pepe Romero. The guitar quartet is now an established medium in classical music, and he is impressed with the quality of today's up-and-coming players.

The Interchangeconcerto, which premiered six years ago, pays homage to the personalities of all four LAGQ members in four separate movements, and then combines themes in a final movement.
