The new president of the Michigan Townships Association says roads are a top priority for this year.
Pokagon Township Supervisor Linda Preston was elected last month to lead the MTA the next year. They represent the 1,240 townships in the state.
Preston says the group is supporting the ballot measure that would raise the Michigan sales tax one-percent as part of a package to boost road funding. Preston says improving the roads is a safety issue, and also an economic issue.
The Michigan Townships Association's legislative priorities include proposed election reforms, they are calling for longer term limits for elected representatives and no-reason absentee voting.
