New State Senate Committee Will Look Into Planned Parenthood

Melissa Benmark, WKAR

The state Senate has created a new committee which will look into Planned Parenthood’s operation in Michigan.

Planned Parenthood has been under attack nationally for how it handles fetal tissue. Senate Majority Leader ArlanMeekhof (R-West Olive) says he has many questions he wants answered.

“There’s a number of issues around that, including licenses that have lapsed, including how is their money spent? And a number of different things that we think are important for our citizens to understand and know. So we’re going to bring those to light,”

Meekhof told reporters on Thursday. The Senate Oversight Committee was created in the wake of a sex-and-cover-up scandal that cost two state House members their jobs. Democratic state Senator Virgil Smith currently faces felony firearm and assault charges.
