'No Confidence' in WMU Provost: AAUP's Final Vote

Update: Western Michigan University has issued the following statement in response to the AAUP's electronic ballot on Provost Tim Greene: "The overwhelming majority--more than three-quarters of the total WMU faculty either chose not to participate in this union vote or did so and expressed their confidence in Provost Greene.  This deeply flawed survey instrument "revealed" what we already knew--that some members of a single college--the College of Arts and Sciences--are unhappy about the removal of their dean."

The union that represents full-time professors at Western Michigan University says its members have voted “no confidence” in Provost Tim Greene. The American Association of University Professors shared an electronic ballot with members over the weekend.

The AAUP had to fix a mistake in the form after some members had already voted, complicating the results, but it says a “substantial majority” voted against Greene.

That follows a voice vote last Friday where members “overwhelmingly” voted no confidence in the provost.

The vote follows Greene’s controversial decision not to renew College of Arts and Sciences Dean Alex Enyedi’s contract. The university has appointed CAS associate dean Keith Hearit to serve as interim dean.
