Portage Launches Phone Alert System

WMUK

Residents and businesses in Portage now have a new way to get emergency information. City officials say they've launched "Portage Alert". It's a system that can send voice and text messages to phones as well as e-mail and posts on Facebook and Twitter.

Portage officials say the messages will include announcements about severe weather and traffic issues. Other messages will offer information about snowplow schedules, the city's annual spring clean-up trash collection, and other events

Public land lines for Portage residents and businesses are automatically signed up for the alert system. You can add a mobile phone or e-mail address by going to the city's webpage.
