Voters approved two bond issues for the Portage Public Schools Tuesday night totaling $144 million.

Proposal 1 will go toward schools to replace Central Middle School and North Middle School, improvements at West Middle School, new pool facilities at Central High School and North High School. It would also go toward new buses, instruction technology, and infrastructure at all of the Portage schools, according to a press release.

Proposal 2 will help with the cost of building an outdoor athletic center at Central and Northern High Schools in place of aging McCamley Field. Portage officials say that would cost about $16 million.

The bonds will lead to an increase of 1.55 mills or a total of 6.85 mills. According to Portage Public Schools, that means about a $116.25 yearly payment on a home $150,000 home.
