Process Begins To Replace Rep. Plawecki on Ballot

Wikimedia Commons

(MPRN-Lansing) Tuesday is the deadline for potential candidates to submit their names to be the replacement nominee for Democratic state lawmaker Julie Plawecki (pla-WEK’-ee), who died last month.

It’s an unusual process for an unusual situation. Julie Plawecki died suddenly while hiking with her daughters in Oregon. She was 54-years-old and serving her first time in the state House.

Plawecki was unopposed on the August primary ballot. It will be up to a committee of three people named by Democratic Party precinct delegates in her Wayne County district to sort through the names and determine a candidate to appear on the November ballot.

Two Republicans are running in the August primary to run for the seat in the Democratic-leaning district.
