A Michigan anti-abortion group says it has turned in more than 315,000 petition signatures. The Gongwer News Service says the initiative my Right to Life is aimed at preventing employers from offering abortion coverage in their health plans. Employees would be forced to by a rider to their policy at extra cost.

Supporters of the measure need 258,088 valid signatures to put the measure before lawmakers.

If the petitions are certified by the State Board of Canvassers, Gongwer says the state legislature is expected to approve the law. Because it would be initiated by a petition drive rather than by legislators, it would not be subject to a veto by Governor Rick Snyder or a voter referendum.
