Saugatuck-Douglas consolidation vote set for November

The Associated Press

Voters in Saugatuck and Douglas will decide in November if the two cities will merge.

The Holland Sentinel reportsthat the director of the State Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs issued the election order on Monday. Residents in both cities must approve the ballot proposal on November 5th for the two cities to merge.

If it's approved in both Saugatuck and Douglas, a charter commission will be established to write rules for the new city. Residents will also have to vote on the proposed charter before the new city can be established.
