Schauer says frustration with Snyder, GOP has him considering run for governor

The Associated Press

Former Congressman Mark Schauer says frustration with the agenda pursued by Governor Snyder and the Republican-controlled Legislature has led him to strongly consider running for governor next year.

In an interview with the Gongwer News Service (subscription required), Schauer says encouragement from fellow Democrats has also factored into his thinking, although the Battle Creek Democrat has yet to formally launch a campaign or a committee to begin raising money.

Several Democrats who had considered running for governor have announced they are not running this year and have endorsed Schauer for their party's nomination. Schauer tells Gongwer that it's important that the party is unified going into next year's election.
