Schauer still considering a run for governor

Blue Green Alliance

Former Congressman Mark Schauer of Battle Creek says he hasn't decided whether he will run for governor next year.

Schauer, who also served in the state House and Senate for a total of 12 years said on the Michigan Public Television show Off the Record last week that he hasn't made a decision on running for governor in 2014. Schauer says he is  weighing family considerations, and says he will make a decision in the next month or so.

Mlive columnist Tim Skubick who moderated the discussion on Off the Record questions whether Schauer has the "fire in the belly" to run for governor.

Gongwer Editor Zach Gorchow blogs that if Schauer doesn't run, it could create a wide-open race for a Democratic nominee.
