Snyder Not Ready to Call for Gamrat and Courser to Resign

Kevin Lavery, WKAR

Gov. Rick Snyder is not ready to call on two state lawmakers caught up in a sex-and-cover-up scandal to resign.

That’s after preliminary findings of a state House investigation found state representatives Todd Courser (R-Lapeer) and Cindy Gamrat (R-Plainwell) committed misconduct and misused taxpayer resources.

Snyder has been on a trade mission to China this week and says he hasn’t had a chance to go over the full investigation report. But he says the embattled lawmakers should resign if it’s clear they broke the public trust.

“If they’ve broken the public trust, they shouldn’t be in office,” said Snyder. “And that’s part of the investigation and that’s what’s being determined.”

The state House Business Office is expected to release the investigation to the public in the coming days. The House has taken procedural steps that could lead to disciplining or removing Courser and Gamrat. Specifically, it has formed a committee to look into whether the two are fit to serve.
