Some State Health Data Stolen

WMUK

State health officials say personal data for nearly 2,600 people was compromised when a laptop computer was stolen in January. The information includes Social Security numbers and other sensitive information.

The state Department of Community Health says the breach involves some people served by the Long Term Care Ombudsman's Office. The data on the stolen computer was encrypted but information on a flash-drive taken with it was not. It had Social Security or Medicaid identification numbers for about 1,500 people.

Officials say all of those affected are being notified will be offered free credit monitoring services.
