Gretchen Whitmer says the manager of her campaign for governor has resigned over past inappropriate behavior in the workplace. The former director of the Calhoun County Conservation District faces federal embezzlement charges.  WMU football coach Tim Lester announces changes to the Bronco staff.

The manager for Democrat Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign for governor has resigned. MLivesays the former state lawmaker issued a statement saying she asked for and received Keenon Pontoni’s resignation from her gubernatorial campaign. Whitmer says she received a credible report that Pontoni had engaged in inappropriate behavior with people in the workplace a number of years ago. Whitmer is seeking the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Abdul El-Sayed, Shri Thanedar and Bill Cobbs are the other Democrats running for governor.

The former director of the Calhoun County Conservation District faces embezzlement charges. The Battle Creek Enquirerreports that a federal grand jury indicted Tracy Bronson Wednesday on five counts of theft involving federal funds. Bronson is accused of taking more than 500-thousand dollars between 2014 and 2017. Bronson left her job in August. The Calhoun County Conservation District is a quasi-state agency, it’s one 76 in the state.

A committee examining possible changes to the Battle Creek city charter has chosen its leaders and set a schedule. A news release from the city says former Congressman and state lawmaker Joe Schwarz will be chairman of the Blue Ribbon Advisory Committee, while Terry Burleson will be vice chair. The committee is considering changes to how the mayor and vice mayor in Battle Creek are selected. They will also consider the size of the city commission and possibly staggered terms for commissioners. The committee’s next meeting is Wednesday. They will continue meeting every two weeks.

Western Michigan University head football coach Tim Lester has announced changes on his staff for the upcoming season. Jake Moreland will be offensive coordinator. He had been co-offensive coordinator, and will continue to work with the offensive line. Eric Evans will move from coaching running backs to pass game coordinator. Assistant head coach Terry Malone will work with the running backs. Dontae Wright joins the Bronco coaching staff from Tennessee Tech. He will be special teams coordinator and safeties coach. The Broncos’ annual spring game will be played March 31st.
