A Seattle man, with Kalamazoo ties, and a woman from Evanston, Illinois are the champions of this year's Kalamazoo Marathon. A new report offers praise for Kalamazoo law enforcement agencies for the response to last year's mass shooting, but also has ideas for improving communication. The start of the trial for the man accused in that shooting will be delayed by the appeal of a judge's ruling. 

A Seattle man who grew up in Kalamazoo won the Kalamazoo Marathon on Sunday. Evan Williams finished the race in just over two hours, 42 minutes. Lindsey Doran of Evanston, Illinois was the women's champion with a time of just over three hours, six minutes. (Kalamazoo Gazette

The attorney for the man accused in the 2016 mass shooting says he is appealing a judge's ruling that some statements made by Jason Dalton can be used as evidence at his trial. That will delay the start of the trial, which was scheduled to begin in June. (Battle Creek Enquirer

The Michigan Public Service Commission is holding two public hearings Monday on the closing of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant. The meetings in Lawrence begin at 3:00p.m. and 6:00p.m.. The plant in Covert Township is scheduled to close in 2018. (Kalamazoo Gazette
