Southwest Michigan Today For Thursday February 22, 2018

A threat closes Otsego Public Schools Thursday. A Battle Creek police officer is charged with drunk driving for an off duty crash. WMU women's basketball loses its third straight. The K-Wings rally for an overtime win.

Otsego Public Schools are closed Thursday due to a threat made on social media. An Otsego student was arrested earlier this week for a threat of violence at the school. The Kalamazoo Gazette says a social media post Wednesday warned students about attending school Thursday. In a post on its Facebook page, Otsego public school officials say they decided to close school, although it found no credibility to the threat.

A Battle Creek police officer faces a charge of drunk driving after an off-duty crash. The Battle Creek Enquirer says Officer Chad Francisco was charged Tuesday in the City of Springfield. His pickup truck hit a utility pole there February 11th. Battle Creek's police department says Francisco remains on paid administrative leave while the case is underway. Battle Creek Police Chief Jim Blocker says the incident is also being investigated by the department.

In women’s basketball, Western Michigan lost at Ball State Wednesday night 85-58. The Broncos have lost three straight, and will host Central Michigan on Saturday.

In hockey, Kalamazoo rallied from a three goal deficit in the third period for a 6-5 overtime win over Wheeling. The K-Wings play at Cincinnati Saturday night.
