A new fund is launched to help people in Kalamazoo impacted by last month's flooding. A dozen people were arrested at Michigan State University as fights broke out among protestors outside an event featuring a white nationalist. WMU advances to the quarterfinals of the MAC women's tournament, but the Bronco men's team is eliminated from the tourney in a heart breaking loss. 

A new fund has been created to help victims of severe flooding in the Kalamazoo area last month. The United Wayand the Kalamazoo Community Foundation have donated a total of $30,000 to the effort. People interested in donating can do so through the United Way. The damage is expected to be more than the $11-million price tag for the flood of 2008. Officials say they're still assessing the extent of the damage to homes and businesses.

More than a dozen people were arrested after fights erupted outside an event at Michigan State University headlined by a white nationalist. MSU did not sanction the event, but allowed Richard Spencer to rent space on the edge of campus as part of a legal settlement. Some demonstrators threw rocks, fruit, and water bottles at people entering the rally Monday.

A Harper Creek School Board member has stepped down.The Battle Creek Enquirer says Vikki Bauer’s resignation letter was dated February 26th and received by the district Friday. It does not give a reason for leaving the board. Bauer was removed as president of the Harper Creek School board last year for speaking to Emmet Township officials on the board’s behalf without the consent of the full board. Bauer was re-elected to her seat in 2016. The board has 30 days to fill the vacancy. Voters will elect a trustee in November to serve the remaining four years of Bauer’s term.

The chief judge of Michigan's Court of Appeals is stepping down. Michael Talbot has been a judge in various courts since 1978. He was appointed to the Appeals Court by former governor John Engler in 1998. The court says Talbot will retire on April 25th. Among other things, he's known for helping to set up Michigan's current Court of Claims system.

Western Michigan has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Women’s basketball tournament. The Broncos beat Bowling Green Monday night 85-71. Western will face Ball State Wednesday night in Cleveland.

Two free throws with 1.7 seconds remaining eliminated Western Michigan from the MAC men’s basketball tournament. The Broncos lost to Akron Monday night 79-78.

Western Michigan forward Josh Passolt has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s rookie of the week. The freshman scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Broncos split two games with Colorado College over the weekend. Western will face Minnesota-Duluth in the quarterfinals of the NCHC tournament. The Bulldogs will host games Friday, Saturday, and if necessary Sunday night.
