A public hearing in Portage this week on a proposed medical marijuana ordinance. The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center launches a crowd funding campaign to help repair damage from flooding. WMU men's basketball team wins its first MAC game of the season. 

A proposed medical marijuana ordinance in Portage will get a public hearing Thursday. The Kalamazoo Gazettesays members of the city's Planning Commission will discuss the issue at Portage City Hall. It starts Thursday evening at 7. The zoning rules would affect facilities that grow, sell, process, or transport medical marijuana. Portage City Council members approved a temporary ordinance last month. It allows the city's only medical marijuana dispensary to stay open while it applies for a state license.

TheHeritage Museum and Cultural Center in St. Joseph has launched acrowd funding campaign to repair damage from flooding in December. The museum is calling the campaign “Keeping up the Cupola” in reference to the tower over the museum’s building. The goal is to raise $50,000 by January 21st. That matching money is needed to receive a $50,000 capital improvements grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. Flooding on December 11th damaged three floors of the Heritage Museum building, but no historical artifacts were damaged.

Allegan County's Circuit Court bench is about to have a vacancy. MLive says Judge Kevin Cronin plans to retire later this month. The announcement came in a message to colleagues. Cronin won a narrow election in 2008 over a judge who had been appointed by then Governor Jennifer Granholm. His tenure has not been without controversy. Cronin sued Allegan County in 2014 because he wanted to be reimbursed for legal expenses after a dispute with another judge over the hiring of a law clerk. Cronin says he'll step down January 12th.

Junior Josh Davis hit all 10 of his shots from the field and scored 26 points as Western Michigan won its first Mid-American Conference game of the men’s basketball season, 87-75 over Akron Tuesday night. Thomas Wilder, Bryce Moore, Reggie Jones and Drake Lamont also scored in double figures for the Broncos. Western plays at Miami on Saturday.
