Another Battle Creek City Commissioner won't run for re-election in the fall. Police investigate a death threat against a Harper Creek School Board member. A Kalamazoo native is the new athletic director at Eastern Michigan University. 

Battle Creek City Commissioner Deb Owens says she will not run for re-election this year. The first ward commissioner says that she is not seeking another term in order to take care of her mother. Owens is the third member of the Battle Creek Commission to announce plans not to run this fall.  (Battle Creek Enquirer

Eastern Michigan University has named a Kalamazoo native the school’s new athletic director. Scott Wetherbee has more than 20 years of experience in college athletic administration. He got his start in the ticket office at Western Michigan University. (MLive)

An empty seat on Kalamazoo Township’s Board of Trustees has been filled. Jen Strebs was sworn-in Monday. She’s the founder of a progressive activist group called Pro-Kzoo. Strebs replaces Don Martin, who’s now Kalamazoo Township supervisor. Strebs will have to run in November 2018 to stay in the township board. Michigan State Police are investigating a death threat against a Harper Creek School Board member. Michigan State Police in Marshall received the complaint of a death threat made against Vicki Bauer last week. No other details have been released. (Battle Creek Enquirer
