Battle Creek City Commissioners consider a tax increase. An investigation into an alleged sexual assault finds three Michigan State University football players violated university policy.  A WMU outfielder is named the MAC player of the year. 

A 0.33-mill tax increase is included in this year's proposed Battle Creek general fund budget. It would help cover police and fire pension costs. If approved by the city commission, it would increase taxes for the second consecutive year. (Battle Creek Enquirer

The Trump administration's budget proposal eliminates funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Michigan lawmakers from both parties are pushing back against the cut. (Detroit Free Press)

A Title IX investigation finds three Michigan State University football players violated university policy. The three unnamed players are suspended from the team. The Ingham County Prosecutor is reviewing evidence to determine if the three will face sexual assault charges. (Detroit News

Western Michigan University outfielder Tanner Allison has been named the Mid-American Conferences' Player of the Year. Two other Broncos were named Second Team All-MAC, and another to the conference's all-defensive team. Western opens the MAC tournament Wednesday morning in Avon, Ohio. The Broncos, who won last year's tournament face Eastern Michigan. (WMU Athletics
