State Representative Aric Nesbitt says a lot of people want to “play the blame game,” but the Lawton Republican says “it’s also about finding solutions, and making sure that the residents of Flint have clean water.”
Nesbitt agrees that there should be accountability. He says people who made poor decisions should be fired. Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Director Dan Wyant lost his job over the water crisis in Flint. But Nesbitt, speaking a day after Governor Rick Snyder's State of the State Address, says there were failures at the federal and local level as well.
Governor Snyder has called for an additional appropriation to help Flint. Nesbitt says that should be approved relatively soon. Lawmakers approved a $9-million supplemental appropriation last fall when the problem first became public.
“People need to be held accountable, whether it’s bureaucrats or elected politicians. But it’s something that…with this specific issue with the city of Flint, people want proactive solutions.”
