Stulberg Silver Medalist Oliver Herbert Performs With University Orchestra

Oliver Herbert was a senior in high school in California when he performed last May in the Stulberg International String Competition, for which he won the silver medal.  Now in his first year at the renowned Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, PA, he returned to Kalamazoo as the guest soloist of the Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestrafor its concert on October 11.

Herbert talks about his experience at The Stulberg, and about adjusting to his new school on the east coast. He and Bruce Uchimura discuss the Cello Concerto in A minor by Robert Schumann, the work he prepared for the competition and his guest appearance with the WMU symphony.  Uchimura also discusses the other major work on the program, Gustav Holsts's The Planets.
