Upton: Heads at Veterans' Affairs "Needed to Roll"

WMUK

Representative Fred Upton says he’s glad the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will soon be “under new leadership.”

Department secretary Eric Shinseki resigned today. The V.A. is facing intense criticism following allegations that veterans were mistreated at its hospitals.

In a statement, Upton says Shinseki has had an “honorable and distinguished career in service to our country” but that the scandal meant “heads needed to roll.”

Sehvilla Mann joined WMUK’s news team in 2014 as a reporter on the local government and education beats. She covered those topics and more in eight years of reporting for the Station, before becoming news director in 2022.
