Volkswagen To Pay Millions To Michigan In Emissions Fraud Settlement

The state attorney general says that Michigan consumers will benefit from a Volkswagen’s emission fraud settlement. Under the settlement announced Tuesday, the German auto manufacturer is required to pay more than $570 million nationally for installing software in its diesel vehicles that fools emissions tests. More than ten thousand of those vehicles are in Michigan.

Owners can receive an update to their emissions software, a buy back, or at least $5,000. The state itself will get roughly $13,000 for Volkswagen's state law violations. Another $60,000 could go to environmental programs that help reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.
