Weekend sports roundup: WMU claims men's tennis title

Men's tennis 

Western Michigan University has won its second straight Mid-American Conference championship. The Broncos defeated the host Northern Illinois 4-3 Saturday in DeKalb. Western earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with the win, they will find out their opponent on Tuesday. 

Softball

Western Michiganlost to Akron 4-2 on Sunday. The Zips swept the three game series with the Broncos at Ebert Field. 

Baseball

Western Michiganlost to Toledo 8-2. The Broncos lost two out of three games to the Rockets during the weekend series. 

Track and Field 

Western Michigan University's relay team won the 4x800 at the Drake Relays on Saturday. Aisha Hodge, Rachel Whitley, Cara Cremeans and Jeriesha Tucker finished at the top of field of 29 relay teams. 

Football

The NFL draft ended Saturday, now teams are looking for more talent among players who were not drafted . Three former Western Michigan University players signed free agent contracts, another has beeninvited to try out. Two former Battle Creek high school players who played their college football at Michigan State are also looking to land with NFL teams (Battle Creek Enquirer story). 

Gordon Evans became WMUK's Content Director in 2019 after more than 20 years as an anchor, host and reporter. A 1990 graduate of Michigan State, he began work at WMUK in 1996.
