Wenke running for state Senate

WMUK

The former State Representative will seek Senate seat in new 20th district.

Lorence Wenke is the first Republican to announce he will run for state Senate in the new district that will include Kalamazoo County. It's currently represented by Republican Tonya Schuitmaker, but she will run in a new Senate district that includes Van Buren and Allegan Counties, as well as part of Kent County.

Wenke served three terms in the state House, after term limits prevented him from seeking re-election, he ran for state Senate in 2010. He lost in the primary to Schuitmaker. Democratic state Representative Sean McCann is the only other candidate to announce that he will run for state Senate in Kalamazoo County next year.
