On WestSouthwest, a vote next week in Richland could be the first to dissolve a village in Michigan. And a new report shows one in ten children in Michigan have had a parent behind bars.

On May third, voters in the Village and Township of Richland could dissolve the Village.  Citizen's Research Council of Michigan President Eric Lupher discusses how villages work in the state. He also discusses consolidation of local government, and why he thinks no proposal to dissolve a village has ever passed.

A new report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation finds that 228,000 children in Michigan have had a parent incarcerated. The Michigan League for Public Policy's Kids Count Project Director Alicia Guevarra Warren says that should influence state policy on criminal justice reform and support for children who have a parent in jail.
