Two interviews that originally aired earlier this year on WestSouthwest. A 1950's plan would have transformed downtown Kalamazoo. And a report from the Upjohn Institute on reforming education in Michigan.
Architect Victor Gruen came with the idea of a series of pedestrian malls in downtown Kalamazoo. While the main pedestrian mall which runs into Burdick Street did become reality, most of the plan was dropped. Sehvilla Mann spoke with Historian and Kalamazoo Valley Museum Curator Emeritus Tom Dietz about the "Gruen plan."
Upjohn Institute Vice President and Senior Economist Kevin Hollenbeck led a team of researchers that developed a report called the The Road Toward K-12 Excellence in Michigan. He was interviewed about the report and its findings in June.
