Two county commissioners, a Republican from Kalamazoo, and a Democrat in Calhoun County want to serve in the state House.

Kalamazoo County Commissioner Phil Stinchcomb is seeking the Republican nomination in the 61st state House District, which includes the city of Portage. That district is currently represented by Republican Margaret O'Brien who is running for state Senate.

Calhoun County Commissioner Terris Todd is seeking the Democratic nomination in the 62nd House District, which includes the city of Battle Creek. That seat is currently held by Democrat Kate Segal, who cannot run for re-election because of Michigan's term limits law.
