On this edition of WestSouthwest, a Battle Creek man raising questions about cancer treatment and the debate over Michigan's energy policy. 

  

Kathryn Surprenant passed away in 2012 shortly after starting treatment for cancer. Her death was caused by a toxic reaction to the drug known as 5-FU. Ken Surprenant hopes that his wife's death can help raise awareness about the risks of chemotherapy and maybe lead to some new methods of treatment.

Michigan lawmakers are debating a change to the state's energy policy. Two west Michigan lawmakers, Aric Nesbitt of Lawton and Mike Nofs of Battle Creek, lead the House and Senate committees taking up those bills. Gongwer News Service Editor Zach Gorchow tells us why there could be a lot of debate, but little change in energy policy.  

Gordon Evans became WMUK's Content Director in 2019 after more than 20 years as an anchor, host and reporter. A 1990 graduate of Michigan State, he began work at WMUK in 1996.
