On WestSouthwest, a Western Michigan University Professor explains the complexity of "tax inversions." And an author explains why he thinks Israel's current course is "not sustainable."

Perrigo still has most of its administrative offices in Allegan, but they are "domiciled" in Ireland for tax purposes. Western Michigan University International Finance Professor Christopher Korth tells WMUK's Robbie Feinberg that many companies are taking advantage of a loophole in the tax code that allows them to avoid paying corporate taxes in the United States. But Korth says companies facing a hostile takeover attempt, like Perrigo did from Mylan, may not enjoy the same protection from the U.S. Justice Department.

Author Mark Braverman says an Israeli state never should have been established. Braverman says he understand why it was done at the time to combat anti-Semitism. But Braverman, who was raised in a "strong Jewish household" says Israel now fits the United Nations definition of an "Apartheid state." He says it is not sustainable in the long run. Braverman spoke with WMUK's Gordon Evans in November while he was in town for an event sponsored by the Kalamazoo Non-Violent Opponents of War.

Gordon Evans became WMUK's Content Director in 2019 after more than 20 years as an anchor, host and reporter. A 1990 graduate of Michigan State, he began work at WMUK in 1996.
