On this edition of WestSouthwest, discussing issues of race, poverty and police relations. And the Republican candidate in the state House district that includes the city of Kalamazoo.   

The President of the Metropolitan Kalamazoo branch of the NAACP Charles Warfield discusses the aftermath of the fatal shooting of a teenager in Ferguson, Missouri. Warfield says the shooting by a police officer that left Michael Brown dead was tragic. But he says it can create an opportunity for a discussion of race, poverty and other issues. 

Republican Mike Perrin is running for state House in the 60th district, which includes the city of Kalamazoo. Current Representative Sean McCann is running for state Senate. Perrin sits down with WMUK's Gordon Evans and Sehvilla Mann to discuss issues facing the state and his campaign. 

Gordon Evans became WMUK's Content Director in 2019 after more than 20 years as an anchor, host and reporter. A 1990 graduate of Michigan State, he began work at WMUK in 1996.
