What's Next After Gold: Zlatomir Fung Talks Stulberg Competition

zlatomirfungcello.com

Cellist Zlatomir Fung, who earned the gold medal in the 2014 Stulberg International String Competition in Kalamazoo last May, returns to west Michigan this week to perform as a guest soloist with the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra

Riding high on his achievement, Zlatomir participated in another prestigious competition weeks later. At the 2014 Klein Competition in California, he again gave an outstanding performance and was awarded the top prize.

Mr. Fung talks to Cara Lieurance about both competitions, and credits his two private cello teachers for their advice and helping him continue his musical studies. He also previews his performance with the Grand Rapids Symphony of Haydn's Cello Concerto in D.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
