WMU Attracts More International Students

WMUK

More students from overseas are heading to Western Michigan University. University officials say the increase is part of a nationwide trend.

According to a university news release, the number of students from other countries enrolled at Western jumped 7.1 percent over the last year. That's slightly less than the national average of 8 percent, according to the annual "Open Doors Report on International Student Exchange" prepared each year by the Institute of International Education. The university says Western now has 1,854 international students from 100 countries.

Overseas enrollment at Western grew even faster during the current semester. It saw an increase of 9.8 percent, including significant jumps in the number of students from India and Brazil.
