Western Michigan University's medical school has won full accreditation. The decision by the national Liaison Committee on Medical Education certifies the Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine for five years.

The program got preliminary accreditation in 2012 and a provisional certificate four years later. The school's first class will graduate later this year.

The accreditation means that Western's med-school meets national standards. It also means that its graduates can get licenses from state boards around the country. Members of the Class of 2018 find out next month where they will spend the next few years as medical residents.

The Stryker Medical School will hold an open house for the community on Saturday, May 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. The Class of 2018 will graduate the following day at Miller Auditorium.
