WMU to Name Engineering Building After Floyd

The trustees also approved a name for the alumni center the university will house in its original building on Prospect Hill. Western plans to call the building Heritage Hall.

Former Western Michigan University president Elson Floyd led the campaign to build the university’s current engineering campus. Now Western will remember Floyd by naming the building that houses the engineering program after him. Floyd died last month at age 59 from complications related to cancer. He served as Western’s president from 1998 to 2003.

On Wednesday, university trustees approved the decision to name the engineering building Elson S. Floyd Hall. They say they’ll seek approval from Floyd’s spouse, who survives him, before proceeding.
