Western Michigan University’s student-run newspaper and radio station have received a big vote of support, and money. That's because students at the university approved a new $5-per-semester fee to help maintain the Western Herald and WIDR.
MLive Kalamazoo says the university's student government, the Western Student Association, announced the results of last week’s referendum on the issue Wednesday. The vote in favor of the fee was about 63 percent.
WMU students also supported another proposed fee by a wide margin. The "Equality in Transportation" proposal will add $8 each semester to student bills to pay for a shuttle bus connecting WMU's main campus and the College of Aviation in Battle Creek.
