Allegan County Faces Dentist Shortage

County commissioners Thursday held a forum where they listened to stories of people who went to emergency rooms due to tooth infections, people who were depressed and unemployed due to lack of teeth as well as the lack of opportunity for low-income people to get their teeth taken care of at all.

No Contact Order Lifted for Two Allegan County Waterways

ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI -- County health officials have lifted a no-contact advisory for Bear Creek and parts of the Rabbit River after a February liquid manure spill from a farm. The advisory was issued Feb. 17 because of risk for high bacteria levels following the discovery of a stormwater system failure at the Schaendorf dairy farm in Monterey Township.

Snow causes roof collapse of old paper mill in Otsego, may reduce demolition costs

OTSEGO, MI -- An outbuilding at the beleaguered former site of the Rock Tenn paper mill on Helen Avenue has collapsed under the weight of accumulated snow, but no one's complaining. "It may actually reduce the demolition cost for that particular building," said Dan Wedge, executive director of services for Allegan County.
