Upjohn Institute Economist Says Calhoun County Has Bounced Back From Recession

Unemployment in the county reached 12% at one point, but most recent figure is 5.3%
Thanks to manufacturing, Calhoun County finally has bounced back from the recession. "It's cars," said George Erickcek, senior regional analyst at the Kalamazoo-based W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research. "It's auto assembly plants, which we're doing extremely well in." "Calhoun County is a great place. Report Has Troubling Signs for Calhoun County Workforce

Upjohn Institute finds low labor force participation rate
Forty percent of Calhoun County's working-age residents don't have a job and aren't looking for one, according to data released by the Kalamazoo-based W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research. Using the average of data from 2010 to 2012, the institute reported that the county has a 60.4 percent labor participation rate.
