The new rules would allow as many as seven large digital signs in the city, including two in the downtown area.
The Kalamazoo City Commission voted 6-0 on an ordinance amendment that would regulate digital billboards in the city, with some tweaks. As proposed, the draft ordinance would not alter the citywide cap of 99 total billboards, but it suggests that a maximum of eight digital billboards be allowed in the city. As proposed, digital billboards would only be allowed in districts zoned general or light manufacturing, community commercial or downtown in the central business district along state-or federally controlled roads.
