John Petrehn Wins Balloon Championship Again in Battle Creek

Sunday morning flights were cancelled because of high winds
John Petrehn won the balloon competition at the 2014 Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival as organizers already began to look forward to the 2015 event. Petrehn, of Leawood, Kansas, is a two-time world champion who finished ahead of five-time national champ Joe Heartsill of San Angelo, Texas, in the Battle Creek event.

Field of Flight Events Begin Wednesday in Battle Creek

Air Show and Balloon Fest continues through Sunday
There will be no 6:30 a.m. balloon launch on Wednesday, July 2. The remainder of the 6:30 a.m. Balloon Launches will take place from various locations throughout Calhoun & Kalamazoo Counties. These flights will take place each morning from July 3-6.

Bottom line for Field of Flight still unclear

Attendance for five-day event estimated at between 60,000 and 90,000
The tents, carnival rides and food booths were rolling off the grounds Monday at W.K. Kellogg Airport. The 2013 Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival ended Sunday night and today the festival grounds will be clear and back to just grass and runways.
