Restaurant owner Ross Simpson said discussions over allowing food trucks in downtown Battle Creek has seemed like "negotiation by ambush" that's "more for show than substance." Reading from a prepared statement, Simpson told city commissioners at their meeting Tuesday night that proposed changes to mobile vending rules have been done "in a relative vacuum" and that downtown restaurant business owners have not been included enough in the process.

Battle Creek officials have released early details of how the city may allow food trucks to operate downtown. Possible changes to three local ordinances were posted on the city's website Wednesday. The drafts would revise decades-old regulations that prohibit mobile vendors in the city's central business district and would also permit leashed pets, along with bicycles and skateboards, in the downtown area.
