GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Navy Capt. John Meier remembers clearly the words that President Gerald R. Ford spoke in 1976, the year of America's bicentennial. Meier, who was 12 at the time, recalled the patriotic vigor the country's 200th birthday instilled across a nation sore over a turbulent 1960s, the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal that put Ford in office.

Events mark opening of exhibit at Presidential library and museum
Key people who helped ex-President Gerald R. Ford guide the United States through the biggest government crisis of the last 50 years will be in Grand Rapids today and Tuesday to talk about him and open a new exhibit at the museum honoring his memory.
