Michigan's Unemployment Rate Drops to 6.7% in November

Total employment rose by 13,000 over the month
LANSING, MI -- Michigan's unemployment rate dropped to 6.7 percent in November, the lowest rate the state has seen since April 2006. That's according to the Michigan Department of Technology Management and Budget (DTMB), which released the numbers today. The number represents a .4 percentage point drop from October's unemployment rate of 7.1 percent.

Hiring is expected to jump 16% for new college graduates in 2014-15, according to findings released this morning from Recruiting Trends, an annual survey of nearly 5,700 companies by Michigan State University economist Phil Gardner.

Michigan's unemployment rate up despite more jobs in June

More people looking for work helped cause slight increase in jobless rate
LANSING - Michigan's unemployment rate ticked up to 8.7 percent in June as more people entered the job market. The rate increased from 8.5 percent in May, but is down from the revised June 2012 rate of 9.3 percent, according to data released Wednesday from the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.

Rubbermaid jobs heading to Kalamazoo

The company that makes Rubbermaid kitchen utensils and Sharpie marker pens is coming to Kalamazoo. Newell-Rubbermaid says its new design and test center at Western Michigan University’s Business Technology Research Park will employ 100 people.
