Kalamazoo Retirement Task Force Holds First Meeting

A Kalamazoo city task force plans to take on the question of how to handle the city’s unfunded retiree benefits.

The group includes more than a dozen people – retirees and current employees as well as city officials. They held their first meeting at Mount Zion Baptist Church last night, where they agreed on a structure for ten scheduled meetings to come.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo city crews are battling frozen water pipes all around Kalamazoo County as many residents tough out this stage of winter without water. As of Monday night, 99 water lines were frozen, up from 94 on Monday morning.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Kalamazoo City Commission on Saturday outlined five priorities for the city for 2014 and 2015, including that the city commission will take an advocacy role in working toward reducing poverty. City commissioners met in a six-hour long planning session with city department heads and City Manager Jim Ritsema, facilitated by Tim Fallon of TSI Consulting Partners Inc.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo City Manager Jim Ritsema has named two deputy city managers to round out his office. Ritsema announced Thursday that Jeff Chamberlain and Patsy Moore will be his deputy city managers. Chamberlain, currently director of the city's Department of Community Planning and Development, will be promoted to deputy city manager in charge of strategic planning and administration.

Jerome Post returns as Kalamazoo's Human Resources Director

Post had left his position at the end of May to become human resources director for the city of Key West. Post said this week he had driven down to Key West and started working, but decided to see if his job in Kalamazoo had been filled.
