KPS Board Vacancy to be Filled Friday

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Mollie Peterson, who served on the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education from 2005 to 2010, was appointed Thursday to fill a one-year vacancy on the board. Peterson, 57, was selected from among 10 candidates, all of whom were interviewed by the board Monday.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education voted 6-0 Monday to ask voters to renew a 1.5-mill countywide school tax in May. To appear on the May 6 ballot, the proposal must be supported by school boards that collectively represent 51 percent of students in the Kalamazoo intermediate school district.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Thursday's meeting of the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education was dominated by a member who wasn't there: Trustee Lonnie Duncan, who collapsed and died Dec. 31 at a New Year's Eve church service. "This board comes together tonight with a heavy heart," board President Patti Sholler-Barber said.
